Smart Urban Co-innovation Lab

Conceived as an idea in late 2018, it was supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (iMDA) and Enterprise Singapore, the Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab is a unique platform where the industry and the public can come together to discover, develop, test and deploy new, sustainable smart city products, services and solutions. It is the first private sector-led, built environment co-innovation platform for the industry.

The Lab is located within CapitaLand’s Singapore Science Park, which is being transformed into a living lab for co-innovation and a catalyst for industry transformation, supporting Singapore’s drive towards the Digital Economy.

In Singapore, the Lab focuses on 4 industries of (i) intelligent estates; (ii) smart mobility; (iii) smart wellness; and (iv) urban agriculture. And in collaboration with partners, the Lab offers facilities and data to enable Innovators and Enterprises to pilot solutions.

We are appointed to manage the Lab and run programmes for the industry.

Singapore’s largest 5G smart estate trial

CapitaLand partners TPG Telecom to deploy an advanced 5G trial network with better than 99% 3.5GHz outdoor coverage across Singapore Science Parks 1 and 2 by 2020. This will be based on a commercially ready 5G core that follows 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 15, the newest 5G Standard. When Release 16 is finalised in 2020, it will feature even higher speeds and data capacity transmissions while reducing network latency by up to 10 times. First 5G enabled Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) tested for smart mobility solutions in a commercial space in Southeast Asia.

CapitaLand, together with NavInfo DataTech and TPG Telecom will also set up the first use-case of 5G in C-V2X.  In this project, NavInfo will provide technology know-how, domain expertise, and necessary infrastructure to set up their proprietary High Definition Global Navigation Satellite System, Cloud Control Platform and high definition maps for Singapore Science Park.
